A guest post by my husband, Jason:
This should be the normal cycle in the life of the church.
11 For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you-
12 that is, that we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine. – Romans 1:11-12
Paul was eager to serve the church in Rome and in doing so for the purpose of being encouraged himself. I can’t help but think this is what discipling looks like.
So, as parents we work to teach our kids how to love others. At some point, what you taught them ends up serving you. This happened yesterday when one of our kids noticed something wasn’t right and eagerly sought to check on mom.
If we are not growing mature followers of Christ, then we are in part doing a disservice to ourselves because we need to be encouraged too. We need to be checked on too.
Beloved of the Lord, be eager to strengthen another’s faith today for you might need them tomorrow and their faith will encourage your faith.
