The weather has turned cool here in the mid south! Although I am a little sad to see my favorite season fading away, Fall is a close second. And one of the reasons for that is that sitting around a fire is one of my favorite things to do.
During the fall, we usually spend many Friday nights by the fire in the backyard. If you’ve read any of my Family Fun Friday posts, you know I’m all about keeping it simple. Yes, you can do the classic cooking of hotdogs and s’mores, and that is great! But the possibilities are endless and should be what your family enjoys.
What if we don’t have a fire pit?
This can be a family night project in itself! It is not difficult to put one together. We currently are using some landscaping border stones. Pick a spot, put them in a circle, and you’re set!
On another property where we lived, we found several bricks around the yard when we moved in. We used these in the same way.
At another place we bought a metal fire ring made from a culvert.
You can buy already made fire pits also.
The final step is to go around the yard and gather sticks to get started!
What if our family doesn’t eat hotdogs?
No problem! You can enjoy any food around a fire. We have prepared our supper that was not campfire related at all and just taken our plates outside to eat. We have picked up fast food and brought it home to eat by the fire. Remember that it doesn’t have to look any certain way; the point is spending time together!
What if I don’t like s’mores?
Try these variations:
- Instead of a plain chocolate bar, use a Reese’s Cup
- Instead of graham crackers, use your favorite cookies

I’d love to hear your ideas for a family night around the fire!
Happy Friday, Kimberly
I always love to sit around y’all’s camp fire and enjoy the goodies❣️ *Use a tortilla and put in all the goodies you love (chopped up candy bars, nuts, marshmallows etc). Fold and wrap in tin foil and place over fire until all is melted. ENJOY THE GREAT OUTDOORS AND ALL THE BEAUTY GOD HAS CREATED!
